NASA ULI – UAS WORKSHOP
Are you a university junior or sophomore interested in the emerging field of Urban Air Systems?
(Related terms: UAM: Urban Air Mobility; AAM : Advanced Air Mobility)
to attend the week long UAS Workshop.
It is estimated that by 2035 the AAM industry will account for US$115 billion annually employing more than 280,000 in high-paying jobs. Many companies creating the vehicles already exist, they will require component suppliers, maintenance, and operators. New airway control systems are being developed and will need operators.
May 14-26, 2025, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona FL
Participants will have all travel, accommodations and food expenses covered. This is sponsored by our NASA ULI grant. A nominal registration fee (~$25) will be charged (waivers can be requested).
Participants will be current sophomores and juniors in related STEM bachelor’s degree programs, be able to attend the entire program, have the ability to get to Virginia Tech by some reasonably priced transportation method (because this will be covered by the program) and be willing to stay in a dorm at Virginia Tech with other participant(s) and eat in their cafeteria. (We plan to have a workshop each year 2024-2026, so if you are a freshman, you can apply in the future.) The focus of the workshop is drone and UAM performance and noise in urban settings.
The goal of the week is to introduce students to opportunities in this emerging area and help them build some relevant skills.
There will be working sessions throughout the week that will allow students to engage with relevant technology and software. Participants will also participate in lab tours, lectures, panel discussions, networking and social activities.
