The Planning Committee—Members of the Symposium
Terese Volk came to Wayne State University from the Buffalo (NY) Public Schools where she taught instrumental music for 26 years. She has also held adjunct professorships at the State Universities of New York at Buffalo and Fredonia, and at Canisius College. Dr. Volk received a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Marywood College, Scranton, Penn. She earned a Master of Music degree from Eastman School of Music and a Ph.D. from Kent State University, Kent, Ohio.
She is the author of Music, Education, and Multiculturalism (Oxford University Press, 1998) and co-author of World On A String (Alfred Music Publishing, 2002). In her clinics and workshops, she combines her experience as a music educator with her interest in historical research and ethnomusicology. Dr. Volk has numerous articles published in a wide array of professional journals and serves as a member of the Editorial Board for Journal of Historical Research in Music Education and Music Education International.
As a researcher and clinician, she has presented papers at regional, national and international music education conferences. She has also served as a coordinator of music festivals, guest conductor and consultant. Dr. Volk teaches instrumental music methods, brass class and graduate music education courses at Wayne State University.
