Member of the Symposium
Jon Piersol served as Dean of the College of Music at Florida State University from 1991 to 2005, after 10 years as Associate Dean and Director of Graduate Studies at FSU.
Previously, after beginning his career as a high school band director, he was a faculty member and Associate Dean of the College of Musical Arts at Bowling Green State University, where he also taught applied clarinet and music education courses, as well as conducting two university bands.
His degrees include the B.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.
Active in research and publication of wind music, Professor Piersol has served on the editorial board and as Editor of the Journal of Band Research, and he is a recipient of the Edwin Franko Goldman Award from the American Bandmasters Association. He has made numerous presentations at regional, national, and international professional meetings, and has served the National Association of Schools of Music as Chair of Region VII of the Association, as Associate Chair of the National Commission on Accreditation, and as a member of the Executive Committee.
