Reinvent HR
During an internship with Kimberly Clark São Paulo, Patricia Alvares Moreira (MBA’14) helped throw out the company’s old approach to HR. Here’s her advice to help you do the same.
1. LOOK INSIDE Conduct a situation assessment to understand the strengths and weaknesses of your human resources program. Interview staff to reveal what’s hindering or motivating their work.
2. LOOK OUTSIDE Benchmark your employee support practices against those of other companies. Learn how they’re carried out and how to shape them to benefit your own HR program.
3. SET GOALS Define specific goals (and a time frame to reach them), such as distributing tasks and hours more evenly among your staff to avoid unnecessary overtime.
4. DEVELOP A SYSTEM Create one source of information—whether a full manual or a single spreadsheet—that explains the assessment results and reasoning behind your goals, as well as guidelines that are tangible for both HR and non-HR employees.
5. VISUALIZE THE FUTURE Outline potential steps, highlight possible bottlenecks found throughout the process, and give directions for the next phases to be completed.
