Making the most of your Ph.D. and Postdoc – developing career relevant skills in academia
This talk provides advice for how to identify and develop skills during graduate training and postdoctoral research in order to be competitive for industry positions. This talk focuses on skills needed for various career paths including research roles and non-research positions such as consulting, business development, writing, outreach, clinical research, and medical affairs. This talk will provide advice for how to develop many of these skills while performing your research while also providing examples for how to build skills outside of the lab (if needed). This talk discusses soft skills that all industry roles are looking for – including teamwork, collaboration, leadership, and communication and how to highlight these experiences to the hiring team.
