
JOYCE VAN DYKE’s plays have received numerous productions, commissions and awards. Two of her plays had world premieres in April/May 2018. Daybreak, inspired by the true stories of her Armenian maternal grandparents, premiered off-Broadway at the Beckett Theatre (Theatre Row), produced by Pan Asian Repertory Theatre. The Women Who Mapped the Stars, about five women astronomers at the Harvard Observatory, was commissioned by Central Square Theater and had its world premiere by The Nora Theatre/Central Square Theater. Her other plays include The Oil Thief, commissioned by the Ensemble Studio Theatre/Sloan Project, produced by Boston Playwrights’ Theatre, and winner of the Elliot Norton Award for Outstanding New Script (2009). Friends of Armenia, a site-specific play commissioned by the Armenian Heritage Foundation, premiered at Boston’s historic Faneuil Hall (2015). A Girl’s War, produced by Golden Thread Productions (2009), New Repertory Theatre (2003), and Boston Playwrights’ Theatre (2001), has won multiple awards including the Gassner Award and the Boston Globe’s “Top Ten” plays of 2001. A MacDowell Colony Fellow and a Huntington Theatre Playwriting Fellow, Joyce has twice received playwriting grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. She has taught Shakespeare and playwriting at Harvard and Northeastern.
