Brand: A woman brought Mortdancestor on the death of her father against the master of a religious institution. He claimed only to be the tenant at will of Robert, though Robert had in fact granted the land to him in fee. The court dismissed the assize and advised the woman, if she believed that the master was in fact the tenant, to enter the land. She did so. Robert then brought novel disseisin against her but the assize found he had enfeoffed the master and so his claim was dismissed. The reporter notes that by his foolish answer the master had lost all right of action to the land.
