(An Office had been found that one held of the king by knight service.
The truth was that the lands were held of another lord in socage.
The lord of whom the lands were held in socage could not bring Traverse of Office because the wardship did not belong to the lord.
The lord commanded one of the lord's servants to appear as next friend to the infant heir to make the Traverse of Office.) |
note by Townshend JCP, coming to Westminster, that by an Office found 'by virtue of office', the heir will not have livery (?)
and (Townshend JCP) said that once the case was thus, that an Office was found, that one A. held land of the king by knight service, where the truth was that the lands were held in socage, now in this case the lord of whom the land was held in socage could not have the traverse, because the wardship did not belong to him (lord)
and he (Townshend JCP) said, that he (lord) made one of his servants appear as next friend (prochein amy) to the said defendant to make the traverse |
