2009 Japanese Film Series: Rikyu (1989)

Description

The Buddhist monk Sen-no Rikyu, tea master to the warrior Hideyoshi Toyotomi, is forced to commit hara-kiri after disagreeing with Toyotomi's plan to invade China. Celebrating 50 years of the Boston-Kyoto city sisterhood, this series will be screening a diverse variety of films, from classics of the past (particularly three films set in Kyoto) to more recent masterpieces. Seating is limited (58 seats); on a first-come, first-served basis. Films for Spring 2009 include: 2/4: Rikyu (1989) 2/11: Sanjuro (1962) 2/18: Linda Linda Linda (2005) 2/25: Late Spring (1949) 3 /4: Ikiru (1952) 3/18: Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984) 3/25: Naniwa Elegy (1936) 4/1: Hula Girls (2006) 4/8: The Burmese Harp (1956) 4/15: Sisters of the Gion (1936) 4/22: Substitute screening in case of snow cancellation
