Opening Reception for "Bordados De Memoria": Embroiderers of Memory |
Description |
Take a glimpse into the plight of El Salvadorian female refugees and their children through this exhibition of photographs and embroidered textiles. View embroidered works by women in El Salvador seeking to stitch themselves back together after their country was torn apart by civil war from 1980-1989 forcing them to flee to Honduras as refugees. The exhibition will consist of twelve colorful panels, illustrated photographs, and historical maps of the process. Additionally, embroidered colorful handkerchiefs by women made in the Honduran refugee camps will be on display. A representative from El Museo de la Palabra y la Imagen (MUPI), the Museum of the Word and the Image, of San Salvador, El Salvador will share the story of these courageous women and their families during this event. |
