William McDonald
William is from the Somerville/Medford area in Massachusetts and teaches high school Biology in Cambridge. He is now in his 29th year of teaching and enjoys the impact he makes on students’ lives.
During the program, William worked in the Bifano Lab with former REU, Francisco Sanchez as his mentor. The project was on Measuring the Stiffness of Engineered Cardiac Tissue. His favorite part of the lab was seeing the research materialize in a paper going out for review.
Though he acknowledges the difficulty of giving up six weeks of your summer, William “wanted to stimulate [his] brain and keep the momentum going into the school year.” William described the lab as an experience that involved constant probing and understanding.
