Synthesis of Core-Shell-Shell Gold Nanoparticles with Broader and Improved Raman Enhancement
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
We will perform optimization on synthesis of core-shell-shell (Au-SiO2-Au) nanoparticles with high yield and develop them as single particle substrate for Raman detection of single molecules.

RESEARCH GOALS
• Optimization of synthesis process to achieve a high (>80%) yield of nanoparticles
• Dispersion of synthesized particles on glass substrates without aggregation
• Study of Raman signal enhancement when biomolecules are bonding to the nanoparticles

• Learn wet chemistry for nanoparticle synthesis
• Learn wet chemistry surface functionalization
• Spectroscopy characterization.
