Kevin Robin

Kevin Robin is a 10th grade Chemistry teacher at Edward M. Kennedy Academy for Health Careers in Brigham Circle, Boston, Massachusetts. This is his second year in the RET program. Last year, his focus was researching materials and applying his scientific knowledge to a more engineering-focused lens.
Now this summer, Kevin has been redeveloping his curriculum to incorporate engineering principles in his classroom. He wants his students to be engaged in fun and purposeful activities that will help them learn the material, and understand why it is important. Currently, he is working on designing an ‘Indiana Jones’ themed project that will challenge the students to creatively find the density of an unknown object, or ‘idol.’
Kevin is thankful for the way this RET program has allowed him to step away from his usual role as a teacher. “I am always learning new things here. It has been a great opportunity to be a student again. It feels as if I am recharging my batteries for teaching.” He intends to bring new ideas back to his classroom and focus on his students’ depth of understanding.
To future RET participants, Kevin advises to have an open-mind and patience. He says to trust the process. It is a refreshing and inspiring experience.
