Shanen Rose Arellano

Shanen Arellano is a senior at Mount Holyoke College, majoring in Physics with a minor in music. Born and raised in Kailua, Hawaii, Shanen pioneered the Kealakehe STEM academy at their high school, improving access to AP classes.

This summer, Shanen worked in PI Masha Kamenetska’s Single Molecule Spectroscopy Lab on “Developing ‘sticky-handle’ DNA for Single-Molecule force spectroscopy measurements.” The project developed a polymerase chain reaction in order to make spectroscopic methods more cost effective.

Shanen is planning to apply for a PhD program in either Boston or the West Coast after finishing their undergraduate degree.
