Nano-based sensing of tissue environments in deep tissue
Mentors
Project Description
Nanoparticle contrast agents will be used with a new quantitative imaging device called Spatial Frequency Domain Imaging in order to spatially map and quantify local environmental conditions such as pH and temperature. Together, this system is called Quantum Yield Imaging.

Research Goals
- To evaluate the efficacy of different nano-based contrast agents for measuring pH and temperature in optical phantoms.
Learning Goals
- Understand diffuse light propagation in tissue
- Understanding fluorescence and quantum yield of fluorophores.
- Take measurements and process data using SFDI.
- Learn to present data to a lab group.
Timeline
Weeks 1-3: Participants will begin instrument training and data analysis.
Weeks 4-6: Participants will start screening different nano-agents in liquid phantoms.
Week 7: Data analysis and poster preparation.
