Futchi Yang
Futchi is a Physics student at St. Paul College. Having been interested in STEM as far back as elementary school, Futchi had received scholarship funding his sTEM journey. Following his time at BU’s Photonics REU program, he aims to pursue a graduate degree after completing his Bachelor’s.
Thermocapillary Manipulation of Liquid Optical Waveguides: Futchi’s research project in Valeri Frumkin’s lab focused on light curvatures through fluid. By suspending liquids, his goal was to make a liquid film to control the curvatures by placing in an optical fiber, which helped view the patterns as they unfolded. His mentors were Jacob Garrett and Ryan Engle.

“I was taking an optics class this past spring, so when I heard about this program from my advisor, I took the opportunity to apply for this program.”
