Ayomide Olagundoye

Ayomide is a Biomedical Engineering (BME) student at the University of Rhode Island, and is part of the international engineering program. She initially wanted to go into prosthetics, but has since continued to explore different STEM avenues. Prior to this REU program, she had no research experience outside the classroom.

Characterizing Relaxin-2 as a Therapeutic Candidate for Fibrosis: Ayomide worked in Mark Grinstaff’s lab, with her primary focus on characterizing Relaxin-2 as a therapeutic candidate for fibrosis. Effectively, the goal of her project was in getting fibrosis to “relax” in a laboratory setting. She was mentored by Heather Murray.

“This has been an extremely valuable learning experience in so many ways. I’m especially pleased with the flow of the program and how each week I was able to progress in my level of understanding, my enhancement of skills and techniques, and my independence and creativity. It was a perfect balance between mental stimulation and comfortability.”
