Kylie Bray

Kylie came to the BU REU as a rising junior from Virginia Tech, where she majors in biomedical engineering. Drawn to the Photonics Center REU program for its location in Boston, she aimed to gain proper experience in a lab setting to help determine her post-graduation plans.

Advancing Early Alzheimer’s Detection with Biosensing: During the summer, Kylie worked with Daniel Lookadoo and Hilena Frew at StataDX, a startup located within the Photonics Center Business Innovation Center. Her research focused on designing, prototyping, and characterizing an electrode chip which would be compatible with microfluidic electrochemical sensing technology, as well as being able to accurately and precisely detect a blood biomarker for Alzheimer’s disease.

“This summer has been an amazing experience that I wouldn’t trade for the world. I genuinely can’t even think of one thing that needs to be improved upon.”
