Generation, transmission and manipulation of optical Skyrmions

Project Description

In various areas of physics, Skyrmions are topological particles that display exceptional stability to perturbations. An optical means of generating them allows the lab-scale study of topological phenomena. Moreover, optical Skyrmions can interact with the spin-texture of materials to yield new
forms for memories that could be beneficial for computing applications since they possess higher bandwidths or capacities and may be switched faster than traditional memories. This project will involve creating optical Skyrmions in fibers and studying their transmission properties, thus laying the groundwork of utilizing optical Skyrmions in disparate applications.
