Bradley Lepak
2022 Participation
Originally from Connecticut, Bradley is currently teaching 10th-12th grade Biology at East Boston High School. His favorite thing about teaching is helping students see how exciting science is. Boston’s success as a biotechnology hub allows Bradley to take his students out on field trips and invite speakers, ultimately showing his students how biology is being used in different settings.
This summer, Bradley worked with Daniel Lookadoo at StataDX alongside Karina Mendoza (REU). He worked on optimizing GFAP sensors for electrochemical biosensing. GFAP is a biomarker of Multiple Sclerosis and its detection aids the tracking of the disease’s progression. The lab work often consisted of building and testing biosensors and using instruments like a potentiostat.

Bradley was appreciative of how helpful the whole lab was, “They’re experts in their field, but people also are really excited to talk about what they’re doing. They enjoy their research or what they’re doing in a lab, and they want you to also be excited about it and understand it.”

Advice for future RETs?
Brad wants future RETs to really listen, learn from, and get to know everyone in the lab, especially the undergraduate students teacher’s are paired with. He also advises teachers to ask for help and ask a lot of questions whenever they need to.
