Bradley Agostinelli

2022 Participation

Originally from outside of Rochester, NY, Bradley now teaches at Clark Avenue School in Chelsea, MA. Bradley’s decision to become a science teacher was influenced by the desire to combine his interest for science and make a gift of his career by giving to others. He teaches 7th grade general science and enjoys helping students experience the wonder and beauty of creation in the natural world

This summer, Bradley worked in the Duan Lab alongside Destiny Kanu (REU), Yixin Xu (mentor), and Rami Yazbeck (mentor). Their project aimed to make the etching of semiconductor chips more efficient. The experiments were based on time length, temperature, and the concentration of the chemical doing the etching. The chips were observed under a microscope to image their silicone channels, a process that can take up to 10 hours. The data is then analyzed using programs like MATLAB and Excel. Bradley finds the “before and after” to be interesting and encouraging.

Advice for future RETs?

He advises future RETs to be patient and ask a lot of questions, especially the first few weeks when everything may seem overwhelming. Eventually, teachers are able to understand a lot more and contribute more within their lab.
