PARTISAN REVIEW
In
the protocol of the trial against major war criminals in
Nuremberg in 1946, in Volume VIII, page 360, of February 27,
1946, we find:
SUPREME JUSTICE SMIRNOW: Tell me, Mr. Witness, is
the name Kurt Franz familiar to you?
RAJZMAN: He was the deputy commander of the camp .. .
the biggest murderer. Kurt Franz was named Obersturmfiihrer
because he announced in January 1943 that one million Jews
had been killed in Treblinka.
SUPREME JUSTICE SMIRNOW: I beg you Mr. Witness, to
tell us how Kurt Franz killed the woman who said she was Sig–
mund Freud's sister. Do you remember?
RAJZMAN: This is how it was: The train arrived from Vienna.
I stood on the station platform as people were led off the train.
An older woman approached Kurt Franz, pulled out a document
and said she was Sigmund Freud's sister. She begged that she be
used for light office work. Kurt Franz carefully looked at the
document and said that there must be a mistake, led her to the
timetable and said that in two hours a train would be returning
to Vienna. She was to leave all her valuables and documents
there,
~o
to the bath house, and after her bath her documents
and her ticket to Vienna would be at her disposal. Naturally the
woman went into the bathhouse, from which she never returned .
