A CONCISE HISTORY OF MUSIC
When th e well s of song were sweet
In
the childhood of th e wo rld
And tambourines jingled and bagpipes skirled
And drums would bea t with the beat
Of th e h ea rt, th ere was no a rt th at h ands and feet
Didn ' t perfectl y understand.
And wasn ' t life grand?
Oh , life was grand.
But the well s o f song grew foul ,
And no one who heard them knew wh y
The h autboy would scream like a j et in the sky
And vi o ls would seem to howl
And th e h arpstring's sound was the cry of an owl.
No , no one understood
H ow son gs so lovely could
Cease to be good .
