MAJOR MOLINEUX
HOODLUM
.You lobsters, you damned lobsterbacks!
(The
HOODLUM
hits one of the
SOLPIERS
with a snowball.)
SECOND SOLDIER
Let's stab them down. I've had enough.
FIRST SoLDIER
No, easy, we are on our best
behavior-Major Molineux's
orders. The time will come for justice.
SECOND SOLDIER
Let's go!
FIRST SoLDIER
Watch out. The bastards want
to trap us in the crooked streets.
( The
SOLDIERS
chase the
HOODLUMS
off stage and disappear. Shots
are heard, then derisive screams.)
Boy
ROBIN
Boy
ROBIN
Boy
ROBIN
They're playing cops and robbers, Robin.
They are too rough! I liked the way
the soldiers smiled. I wonder how
anyone could distrust a soldier.
We've lost our guide.
We'll find another.
Why did that boatman gnash his teeth
at Cousin Major?
He was cold.
That's how big city people talk.
Let's walk. We're here to see the city.
( As
ROBIN
and the
Boy
start moving, the miniature houses light up
one by one and then go dark. A
BARBER
comes out of the barber
shop; he holds a razor, and a bowl of suds. A
TAVERN KEEPER
enters
holding a newspaper.)
BARBER
(Cutting away the suds with his razor)
That's how we shave a wig.
