insofar as we are concerned with their social philosophies, we can
be interested only in those movements that are truly international
and speak for all peoples.
Because our perspective
is
that of democratic socialism we can–
not accept Malraux's uncritical support of a movement that may
turn out to be another variety of authoritarianism. And
if
we are
ready to join in the defense of what still remains of Western civiliza–
tion, it is because we are convinced that the ideals of socialism cannot
be realized so long as Stalinism dominates the political life of Europe.
