$3000 in Fiction Fellowships
through the cooperation of
THE UNIVERSITY OF lOWA SCHOOL OF LETTERS
THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS CITY REVIEW
THE PRAIRIE SCHOONER
THE PURPOSE-The award is to encourage and help talented writers
in the field of fiction.
THE AWARDS-Six fellowships of $500.00 each will be awarded to the
authors who submit four chapters or 10,000 words of a proposed novel
along with a brief outline of the remainder of the book. There are no
restrictions as to theme, subject matter, or locale. The fellowships, two
to be awarded through each of the cooperating participants, will be
outright awards and
not
advances against royalties. There will be no
predetermined deadlines for completing the manuscripts awarded a fel–
lowship. Each author will be asked to complete his or her novel within
a period of time to be agreed upon when the fellowship is awarded. The
Thomas Y. Crowell Company reserves the right to make no award if
the material submitted does not meet fellowship standards.
ELIGIBILITY-(1 ) Writers who have attended or are planning to enroll
at the UNIVERSITY OF IOWA SCHOOL OF LETTERS, (2) writers
who have been published in the UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS CITY
REVIEW, or THE PRAIRIE SCHOONER in the past, or those whose
work appears in either of these magazines up to and including the Sum–
mer Issue, 1946.
CONDITIONS-Entries submitted through the University of Iowa School
of Letters must be in the publisher's office by April 1st, 1946; others by
June 15, 1946. Announcement of the winners will be made as soon after
these dates as possible. The Thomas Y. Crowell Company reserves the
right to negotiate for the publication of any books written 'Yith the aid
of these fellowships-arrangements for publishing to be agreed upon
between the author and publisher. The judges will be the editorial staff
of the Thomas
Y.
Crowell Company. Its decisions will be final.
