EdM Part Time 12-Month Program

This program has been adapted from the Noyce MAT program to allow career changers and other science teacher candidates to obtain a Master’s in Education while still working part or full time. To be considered part-time, a student must be registered for fewer than 12 credits.

All courses, except the capstone courses SC 509 and SC 510 “Student Teaching Practicum,” meet in the late afternoon or early evening. The Pre-Practicum course, SC 576, requires the student to be in a school observing classes, and potentially participating, for at least two days per week  and to accumulate at least 75 hours over the course of the Fall semester. Students take either SC 509 (for middle school licensure) or SC 510 (for high school licensure)  in the Spring semester. These courses require the candidate to work at least 300-hours, essentially full-time, in a middle school or high school to fulfill the practicum requirement for initial license. Days and times for courses listed below are typical.
