The Statistics Practicum (MA 675 & MA 676) is the centerpiece of the MSSP program. Comprised of in-class instruction, hands-on consulting experience in the MSSP Consulting Services, and intensive partner projects with Boston-based organizations, the practicum provides students with an environment in which they integrate the theory, principles, and methods learned in other MSSP courses with actual practice.
In the MSSP Consulting Service and the semester-long partner projects, students gain direct and intensive experience doing the kinds of work they can expect to encounter after graduation. The MSSP approach is holistic, addressing the entire process – from asking the right questions in an initial client meeting, to providing advice and hands-on help, to delivering reproducible analyses, presentations, reports, and online interactive applications. MSSP students graduate with a professional portfolio of work, showcasing a broad range of consulting and collaborative experience.
MSSP Consulting and BU Researchers
The majority of our consulting clients are researchers (both faculty and students) from the Boston University community. These clients are from all walks of academia, including Art History, Biomedicine, Communications, and Social Work, to name just a few. Check out a few of our recent collaborations below!
*The three letter acronyms (CAS, MED, SED, etc) represent colleges within BU within which the professors we worked with were from.
Industry Partners
Along with consulting for BU researchers, we also partner with companies throughout the Greater Boston Area to work on projects addressing their business and research needs. These semester long, team based projects allow our students real-world data science experience. Below are a few of the companies and organizations we have and continue to work with.
