Microsoft Office 365
Microsoft Office 365 is the university-wide offering of many commonly used and popular applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Microsoft Office 365 is unique in that users are no longer confined to a desktop application as web versions of all the software is available as well. In addition, a number of cloud services and an emphasis on collaboration now makes working with colleagues easy.
Support Policy
MET IT is responsible for the following:
- Installation on MET-provisioned machines
- Troubleshooting applications
BU IS&T is in charge of the infrastructure for checking and provisioning licenses. MET IT will escalate matters to BU IS&T should the issue fall outside our responsibilities or involve advanced assistance with licensing.
- Product Restrictions and Availability

Depending on your affiliation, you may be restricted from using specific products.
Example: Students will not have access to their own OneDrive account as they are already granted Google Drive.Some products will require additional permissions/access to be granted to use.
Example: Employees who need developer features for Power BI will need to request this access.The following products are unavailable regardless of affiliation:
- Home Use Program (HUP)

Employees may receive a discount on a personal copy of Microsoft Office 365 through this program.
Students are not eligible for this discount.

Troubleshooting
- Microsoft Office 365 license has expired

Users may receive this notification if they have not used their computer on the BU network in a while. If so, users should do the following:
- Connect their computer to the BU network either through wired connection, wireless connection, or VPN.
- Leave the computer running overnight.
This process should ensure your license is verified and refreshed by BU IS&T’s automated systems.
If this is unsuccessful, contact us for troubleshooting and escalating the matter to BU IS&T.
