MET Virtual Desktop

MET IT is offering a virtual desktop service for all full-time MET employees. Suggested use cases are:

  • New employees who are waiting on their official MET-provided equipment
  • Departing employees who do work after returning their MET-provided equipment
  • Travelling employees who require a secure desktop
  • Employees who are waiting on repairs to their MET-provided equipment
Accessing the Virtual Desktop

The MET Virtual Desktop (also referred to as MET REMOTE) is accessible through either the Omnissa Horizon Client (recommended) or the web client available at https://metvlab.bu.edu/.

While both options will get you up and running quickly, the Omnissa Horizon Client comes with better features to its web counterpart. Some features include:

  • Better stability and performance
  • Ability to pass your USB devices to the remote desktop (e.g.-headset, camera, speakers)
  • Ability to share between the remote desktop and your machine’s local folders
  • Ability to use multiple monitors

Omnissa Horizon Client can be installed on almost any device, with installers available for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, and Chromebooks.

Available Software

MET REMOTE is currently installed with Windows 11, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Zoom to meet most office work needs. Users who require additional software to be installed may contact us to request the installation.
