Using Drosophila as a model organism, I am investigating the genetic, molecular, and behavioral mechanisms of schizophrenia. Using the glutamatergic Drosophila neuromuscular junction, I am analyzing synaptic proteins, receptors, and morphology to better understand how aberrations in synaptic pruning lead to schizophrenia. Additionally, I am exploring the role of schizophrenia associated genes on negative and cognitive schizophrenia symptoms.
