Some stuff I enjoy doing whenever I can as well as topics I am interested in!

    Space

I'm super interested in space and what it holds in the future. With the 50th anniversary of the moon landing coming up soon (July 20), I'm really excited for all the fun space events happening around Boston. My mom and some friends introduced me to astrobiology and I never looked back. Astrobiology asks the question, "are we alone?" So astrobiologists study geology, biology, and chemisty to find life outside our Earth whether that is within our solar system or on exoplanets. The Fermi Paradox states that while there are so many planets across the universe, the chance of finding life is almost 100% (using the Drake Equation) but why can't we as humans find any life? There are a bunch of weird theories but some seem almost true. In my opinion, the most plausibe one is that our technology is too primitive for the plentiful activity and noise out there and we're looking for the wrong things BUT my favorite one is that we're living in a stimulation and eventually we'll become so advanced that we'll put ourselves in a stimlulation and go in an endless cycle (Elon Musk's theory).

    The Environment

    A story, by me.

I’ve been raised to be aware of my surroundings. That doesn’t always mean to do something about it, but to be observant of what is going on around the world. I seen the effects of climate change around me but it never really bothered me before. I knew that climate change existed but I didn’t think one person’s effort might make a difference. I went to a documentary screening of Chasing Coral and it opened my eyes to show me the effects of climate change. It was mind-blowing to know that just a simple animal could play a massive role in our ecosystems and economy and we were just driving our cars and throwing away plastic bottles, letting them die. The movie showed me that climate change is real and if we don’t do something about it, the entire coral species will die out soon.

A beach I swam at to see coral (mostly dead).

Today, I am a strong believer in climate change and believe that we can fix it as long as we do it together. I convinced my family to reduce our plastic use by using reusable water bottles and straws. For a group project, we screened Chasing Coral, the same movie that changed my perspective on climate change. One of the main reasons I earned my scuba diving license this summer was to be able to see a vibrant coral reef one day in my life. Climate change is a big part of everyone’s lives now. Maybe a first-hand experience might not have happened to everyone yet but for me, watching and then seeing for my own eyes coral die was enough of a push for me to stand up for a change.
