Parking
Complimentary parking will be offered to all delegates at the Agganis Arena garage. The entrance is located behind the building and can be reached by Buick Street or Agganis Way. Handicap parking spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. EV charging stations are also available.
Ride Share Services
If you use a ride-share service to travel to Boston University, please instruct your driver to drop you at our Fitness & Recreation Center:
915 Commonwealth Avenue
at the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and Buick Street.
The Ceremony
Academic Dress
All delegates participating in the academic procession are responsible for bringing their own academic dress. Arrangements should be made by whoever designated you as a delegate from your institution. Please do not have robes shipped to Boston University.
Robing, Lineup, and Formation of the Academic Procession
Delegate robing and lineup will take place at the Fitness & Recreation Center 3-Court Gymnasium, 915 Commonwealth Avenue (adjacent to Agganis Arena). The robing area will open at noon.
To reach the Fitness & Recreation Center:
As you leave the Agganis Arena Garage elevator lobby area, turn right and walk toward Commonwealth Avenue. Turn left and walk one block east along Commonwealth Avenue to Buick Street. Turn left on Buick Street. The entrance to the gymnasium will be the first door on your left. There will be signs on Commonwealth Avenue to direct you to the robing area.
University Marshals will guide you to the delegate lineup area. Delegates will line up in order of the institution’s founding date; For your convenience, a chair will be set out for you, labeled with your name, your institution’s name, and the year of its founding.
Coatracks will be provided so that you can hang up your academic dress until you are ready to robe. In addition to delegates from other institutions, Boston University faculty and members of our Alumni Council will also robe in this area.
A light luncheon will be provided for those participating in the academic procession. We hope you will enjoy the opportunity to meet and mingle with our faculty and alumni. If you prefer, you are welcome to visit one of the many eateries located within blocks of the Fitness & Recreation Center.
We ask that all delegates be robed and seated in lineup no later than 1:30 pm. The academic procession will begin moving at 1:45 pm, so that the Inauguration can begin promptly at 2 pm.
You are welcome to leave personal items (e.g., jackets, bags, etc.) in the robing area, as it will be secured at all times by Boston University Police. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the procession will return to the robing area.
Security
All delegates will be subject to screening and bag check as they enter the Fitness & Recreation Center from Buick Street. Please carry your academic dress (instead of wearing it), to pass more quickly through screening. If possible, please leave bags in your vehicle. Bags larger than 12” x 12” x 6” are not permitted in the Fitness & Recreation Center or Agganis Arena.
Community Reception
Following the Inauguration, delegates are invited to join all other guests at a community reception to celebrate BU’s new president. The reception will take place in the Fitness & Recreation Center 4-Court Gymnasium (two flights up from the robing area).
Accessibility
The Fitness & Recreation Center and Agganis Arena are wheelchair accessible. The Inauguration will be CART transcribed as well as ASL-interpreted. Please email pres2024@bu.edu if you have other mobility or accessibility concerns not addressed by these measures.
