Nellie Amosi
Postdoctoral Associate, IGS
Nellie Amosi is a Postdoctoral Associate at the Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS) specializing in the development of energy justice indicators for offshore wind energy projects. She earned her PhD in Environmental Sciences from the University of Connecticut, where her research focused on analyzing and mapping the impacts of extreme events on livelihood systems and ecosystem services by integrating climate indicators with socioeconomic factors, particularly for vulnerable communities in Southern Africa.
Amosi employs a diverse toolkit that includes Spatial Data Analytics and Social Theories to address pressing environmental challenges and mitigation measures. Her work aims to foster resilience in the face of climate change while promoting equity and justice for marginalized populations.
Her professional experience spans various research roles with state agencies, including the Department of Public Health and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where she concentrated on climate change, environmental, and public health research. Additionally, she coordinated climate-related research projects at the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR-ICRAF), developing policies that support sustainable land use practices, enhance food security, and promote equity and livelihoods in the Sub-Saharan region. Amosi advances innovative solutions in climate resilience, focusing on improving recovery times from the impacts of extreme climate events, and promoting environmental justice and sustainability for marginalized groups.
