Visiting Researcher, IGS
Hanee Ryu is a Visiting Researcher at the Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS). She conducts interdisciplinary research on technology, policy, and market structure in energy transition.
Recently, the focus has been on addressing cost overrun issues based on project-level costs for various power sources. A comparative evaluation of cost overruns for energy sources for power supply is being conducted worldwide. Additionally, she is conducting research on low-carbon technology, policy, and markets in the industrial sector, with a focus on hydrogen and CCS.
She is approaching the life cycle assessment from raw materials to recycling in renewable energy, focusing on the environmental and economic evaluations. Specifically, she aims to evaluate the economic feasibility of battery recycling technology and its industrial impact. As part of the approach of the life cycle assessment, conducting research on the supply chain from accessing critical minerals as raw materials to products. Through research on value-added in trade, she attempts a geopolitical interpretation of the global supply chain based on data.
She delves into issues of energy injustice in the spread of renewable energy, examining inequality and social opposition to energy infrastructure. Her research encompasses stakeholders, strategies, and outcomes, aiming to propose solutions to these issues.
