Dana Clancy

Dana Clancy, affiliated faculty with the Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS), is an artist whose art, research, and teaching explore observation, artistic communities, place, and locale. Clancy is represented by Alpha Gallery, Boston. She has also exhibited her paintings in New England, nationally, and internationally in Florence and Como, Italy, with curatorial work in Venice and at BU, including the 2013 exhibition and event platform Alternative Visions, Sustainable Futures (with curator Lynne Cooney and BU Sustainability). Art residencies include a recent residency with the Blue Hill Observatory, a meteorological observatory upholding the nation’s oldest continuous climate record as well as Yaddo, Camac Centre d’Art (France), Tinkertank in Chicago, Il Palmerino (Italy), and the Vermont Studio Center. Her work is held by the Wellington Management corporate collection, the deCordova Museum, and major private collections.

Clancy is Associate Professor of Painting and Chair of BFA Painting at BU School of Visual Arts, where she teaches painting, drawing, and art seminars and mentors the CFA Color Garden. She also served as the school Director for six years (2018-2024), during which time she worked with a student team and IGS’ Campus Climate lab to start BU’s student-run pigment and dye garden. Other leadership roles include: Board service, National Association of Schools of Art and Design; Art Chair of the longstanding Blanche E. Colman Award for New England artists; and Institutional Partnership Advisor for the New England Bothy, a future residency in Maine focused around environmentally-engaged work.
