Chuanhua Duan

Affiliated Faculty, IGS; Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering

Chuanhua Duan, affiliated faculty with the Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS), is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science & Engineering at Boston University. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Engineering Thermophysics from Tsinghua University in 2002 and 2004, respectively. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 2009 with Prof. Arun Majumdar. After graduating from UC Berkeley, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory for two years. Chuanhua joined Boston University in 2012 and founded the Nanoscale Energy-Fluids Transport (NEFT) Laboratory. The NEFT lab is focused on the study of nanofluidic transport phenomena and the development of new fluidic devices/approaches for applications in energy systems, thermal management and healthcare.

His current research interests includes: 1) exploring anomalous transport phenomenon in 1-D or 2-D nanoscale confined spaces; 2) improving phase-change heat transfer based on patterned micro/nanostructures; 3) developing 2-D nanomaterials based nanoporous membranes for water desalination and chemical separation; 4) creating new nanofluidic devices for biomolecule sensing and separation.
