Breanna van Loenen

Breanna van Loenen, a 2025 Graduate Summer Fellow at the Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS), is an MS student in Remote Sensing and Geospatial Science in the College of Arts & Sciences. She is developing new methods for satellite retrievals of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from fossil fuel development. She is interested in accounting for emissions of climate- and health-relevant pollutants in areas where ground-based data collection is sparse (i.e. Permian Basin).
Her faculty advisor is Jonathan Buonocore (Assistant Professor, Environmental Health, School of Public Health and Core Faculty, IGS) and her project is titled “Quantification and Spatiotemporal Modeling of VOCs from Satellite Measurements.”
