Jonathan Buonocore
Core Faculty, IGS; Assistant Professor, Environmental Health, School of Public Health
Dr. Jonathan Buonocore, core faculty with the Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS), is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Health at the Boston University School of Public Health. Previously, he was a Research Scientist at the Center for Climate, Health, and the Global Environment. He received both his Sc.D. in Environmental Science and Risk Management and his Master’s in Environmental Health from the Harvard School of Public Health.
His research interests broadly are at the intersection of climate, energy, health, air quality, and environmental justice. Much of this research is on the health impacts of fossil fuels, and the health “co-benefits” of climate mitigation strategies, such as climate policies, building renewable energy, or deploying heat pumps. This work involves building systems models of energy systems and their supply chains to evaluate health, climate, and environmental impacts across their life cycles. Current and recent research interest includes cost-effectiveness of direct air capture compared to deploying renewables, disparities in populations living near energy infrastructure, and health impacts of use of natural gas in building heating appliances, and across the supply chain.
