Now Hiring: Student GIS Research Assistant

The Clean Energy & Environment Legacy Transition Initiative (CELT), hosted at the BU Institute for Global Sustainability, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented graduate or undergraduate student to join our team as a GIS Research Assistant. This role will support the development of GIS-based visualizations and analysis for clean energy, climate, and resilience to advance data-driven decision making in Massachusetts. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in GIS technologies, a passion for environmental sustainability, and the ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the creation and visualization of GIS data relevant to clean energy, climate, and resilience
  • Perform spatial analysis to support ongoing research projects intended for public resources part of state/municipal partnerships
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure accurate and timely data processing and visualization
  • Maintain high attention to detail in data entry, analysis, and visualization
  • Work ~10-20 hours per week, with flexibility around academic schedule

 Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program in Sustainability, Data Science, Remote Sensing, Public Health, Engineering, Urban Planning, or related field
  • Expertise in energy, sustainability, climate, or policy
  • Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, QGIS, ArcPy, R)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage, analyze, and document large datasets
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Effective communication skills and ability to present findings clearly
  • Effective organization and time management skills to manage data requests flow quickly
  • Experience with data related to clean energy, climate action, and sustainability
