Tracy Schroeder to Depart Boston University for University of California, Berkeley
December 15, 2023
Dear Colleagues,I am writing to announce that Tracy Schroeder, Vice President of Information Services & Technology and Chief Data Officer, has accepted the position of Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Technology & Chief Information Officer at the University of California, Berkeley, and will be leaving her position here at the end of May 2024. A national search will be launched in January to identify Tracy’s replacement.
Under Tracy’s leadership, numerous legacy mainframe-based systems for finance, human resources, research administration, campus planning, auxiliary services, student services and more have been reimagined and successfully upgraded. Administrative support for personal computing needs was redesigned and comprehensive wireless coverage for our residence halls was established. Many of our systems moved from our campus to the cloud, and Tracy played a key role in Boston University’s entry into the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center, where she currently serves on the board. When she was appointed Chief Data Officer, Tracy assumed responsibility for Analytical Services & Institutional Research, which tracks and analyzes key institutional data crucial for management decisions.
Our systems are now more up-to-date, effective, efficient, and resilient, thanks to Tracy and her colleagues in IS&T. An important part of her BU legacy is a great team dedicated to continuous improvement that will serve Boston University well as we move forward in the artificial intelligence era.
Tracy has been a model of University service, chairing multiple search committees and serving on a number of governing bodies. We are grateful for her devoted and imaginative service and her steadfast example of integrity and responsiveness.
Please join me in thanking Tracy for all that she has done (and will continue to do until May 31, 2024) in support of Boston University’s mission.
Sincerely,
Kenneth W. Freeman
President Ad Interim
