Major Depressive Episode

To be diagnosed, the patient must have had 5 or more of the following 9 symptoms (including at least 1 of the first 2 * symptoms) during the past two or more weeks:

  • depressed mood ( sad, "blue")*
  • loss of interest or pleasure (anhedonia) *
  • change in sleep
  • change in appetite or weight
  • low energy or fatigue
  • psychomotor agitation or slowing
  • low self-esteem or guilt
  • poor concentration
  • thoughts of suicide or death
