Kathleen E. Toomey

Kathleen E. Toomey is the Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Health, overseeing statewide public health programs and leading Georgia’s COVID-19 response. An epidemiologist and board-certified family practitioner, Dr. Toomey has held leadership roles at the CDC, including Country Director in Botswana, and previously directed public health for the State of Georgia and Fulton County. She holds an M.D. and M.P.H. from Harvard University and has a background in epidemiologic research, including work on early HIV cases. Her career reflects a commitment to public health leadership and global collaboration.
