
Joan B. Bragar

Joan B. Bragar is an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at Boston University School of Public Health, where she teaches leadership to master’s and doctoral-level students. With over twenty-five years of experience in leadership development, she has designed and implemented programs that have strengthened organizations in both the public and private sectors worldwide. Dr. Bragar served as Academic Director for the Leading High Performing Healthcare Organizations Program at Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya, and has taught leadership courses in health ministries and academic institutions across Egypt, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, and China. She was instrumental in developing the Leadership Development Program (LDP) for health system managers, implemented in more than 45 countries, helping teams tackle challenges and achieve measurable improvements in health services, including reductions in maternal mortality. She is the lead author of Managers Who Lead: A Handbook for Improving Health Services, an award-winning resource for health professionals, and published Leading for Results in 2015. Dr. Bragar holds a Doctorate in Education, a Master’s in Education, and a Bachelor’s in the History of Science, all from Harvard University.
