
Alexa Friedman
EWL 2021 Mentee
Alexa Friedman, is a Senior Scientist at the Environmental Working Group, specializing in Risk Assessment, Epidemiology, Toxicology, and Public Health since October 2023. Previously, she was an IRTA Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) in Durham, North Carolina, focusing on Exposure Assessment and Statistical Data Analysis. She earned a Ph.D. in Environmental Health from Boston University, where her dissertation examined early life exposure to metals and adolescent neurodevelopment. Alexa also holds a B.S. in Human Health Sciences from the University of Connecticut, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Her experience includes roles as a Public Health Intern at the East Hartford Health Department, various research assistant positions at the University of Connecticut, and a volunteer intern with MEDLIFE in Peru.
Research Interests: Environmental mixtures and neurodevelopment with an emphasis on understanding critical windows of exposure. Dissertation research focuses on understanding the association between metal mixtures and children’s neuromotor function.
