Thoughts on the rising popularity of ChatGPT
Sometimes I have an idea of what words I want to use and the general format of my statement but don’t know how to exactly articulate it. I think ChatGPT can be very useful in situations like this: adding the finishing touch and making the process of editing seamless. However, it is a dangerous territory to get into if you start to falsely believe that ChatGPT’s ideas are your own.

I think ChatGPT’s quick, interactive abilities are especially exciting; however, I understand the concern people have with AI’s rising popularity and how often it is used to cheat.

I’m worried that ChatGPT’s potential as a tool to augment human capability and productivity will be feared and rejected rather than embraced. I’m not saying that everyone needs to do everything through ChatGPT, but I feel like it would be a mistake to outright ban it.

I am impressed by some of the capacities of the new technology, but possess a large concern for the misinformation aspect. ChatGPT is consistently sold as “AI” but that’s a strong misnomer, as it’s more akin to a predictive text algorithm like autocorrect. The things it writes are collations of words typically paired without consideration for context or meaning; therefore, GPT writing lacks any true originality.
