Trainings within our Community
In the fall of 2018, the Provost announced to the community (website communication, BU Today article) that Boston University would be moving to implement mandatory, online University-wide sexual misconduct prevention training for all faculty, staff, and students. The trainings have been one important part of the University’s efforts to heighten awareness of acceptable and unacceptable behavior as well as available campus resources for safety, education, and reporting.
Sexual Misconduct Prevention trainings for faculty and staff are delivered through BU’s Terrier eDevelopment Learning Management Platform (LMS). There are different training assignments based on supervisory responsibilities. New employees are required to complete their assigned course(s) within two weeks from their start date. Completion of the assigned module(s) is required for employees to qualify for the next merit increase process.
Health Promotion & Prevention of BU Student Health Services administers online sexual misconduct training to BU students. There are different training assignments based on student status. Incoming undergraduate students complete Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates, and incoming graduate and non-degree students complete Sexual Assault Prevention for Graduate Students. Part 1 of these trainings is a University Compliance requirement. Students who do not complete training by the deadline will be withheld from using the course planner and registering for classes their second semester of coursework. Varsity student-athletes are also required to complete an additional, annual leadership training called Sexual Assault Prevention for Student Athletes. Please visit the SHS website to learn more about student training requirements.
The Sexual Assault Response and Prevention Center (SARP) administers additional training to students. Please visit SARP’s website to learn more about training opportunities and services.
