Yanfeng Geng, CISE Industry Roundtable
Yanfeng Geng, Quantitative Analyst/Developer at Geode Capital Management, spoke to CISE graduate students at the 1st Fall Semester 2016 Industry Roundtable. Prior to joining Geode, Geng was a software development engineer in Audible, an Amazon subsidiary.
After two and half years at Audible, Geng decided to move from the tech industry to the financial industry, an atypical career shift as employers prefer to see experience in one specific area. At Geode Capital, Geng is responsible for two main areas: “risk management support which is writing codes and generating reports and portfolio optimization which is model building and implementation.”
As a PhD student at Boston University, Geng worked on multiple projects with his advisor, Professor Christos Cassandras. Geng helped develop the smart parking app and then moved on to resolve two intersection traffic control issues. Professor Cassandras described Geng as “one of those students who combine his capabilities in theoretical work with a practical hands-on approach which is a rare quality.”
