Vasilis Syrgkanis

Vasilis Syrgkanis is an Assistant Professor of Management Science and Engineering (with courtesy appointments in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering) at Stanford University, where he directs the Stanford Causal AI Lab and serves as Associate Director of the Stanford Causal Science Center. His research focuses on machine learning, causal inference, econometrics, online and reinforcement learning, and game theory/mechanism design.

Before joining Stanford, he was a Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research New England, where he co-led the ALICE project on Automated Learning and Intelligence for Causation and Economics. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Cornell University under Eva Tardos, followed by a postdoctoral position at Microsoft Research NYC, and holds a diploma in EECS from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece.
