web_1JFoster Justin M. Foster is a senior energy trader and principle at Appian Way Energy Partners, primarily covering the ERCOT and SPP markets congestion based trading, including financial transmission rights, virtual bidding, and OTC spread activities.

Previously Foster worked as a senior energy trader at Edison Mission Marketing & Trading, which subsequently became Boston Energy Marketing and Trading.

Appian Way is a boutique energy trading firm founded in 2014 and located in Cambridge, MA. The firm focuses on trading in wholesale competitive electricity markets throughout the USA.

Foster earned his PhD in Systems Engineering from Boston University and an AB in Mathematics from Bowdoin College. At Boston University, Foster’s dissertation developed sensitivity-or gradient-based algorithms aimed at reducing congestion costs by tractably including transmission switching in the economic dispatch. This research founded the basis for his current work conducting technical power transmission analyses for fundamentally based congestion trading.
